The Washington Canoe Club is located below Georgetown on the Potomac River. Founded in1904 by paddlers from Potomac Boat Club, its mission was mutual improvement i.e. the promotion of physical culture and the art of canoeing.

The Washington Canoe Club enjoys a longer season than the northern boat clubs, due to its strategic position as it is one of the southernmost of the east coast canoe clubs.

The competitive programs at WCC include marathon, sprint and outrigger canoe racing.

Olympic Sprint Racing is their marquee program. They offer training from introduction to Olympic level in the Sprint Canoe/Kayak racing.

They have many members who compete in standard canoe racing and Marathon Canoe/Kayak racing. They also take coaching and instruction for flat- water canoe racing.

The club is presently designated a "Center of Excellence" by the United States Canoe and Kayak Team (US CKT), the national governing body for the sport of Olympic flatwater racing.
