Metro at a glance

Serving the larger Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia, the Metrotrail is one of the busiest rapid transit system. It comes second to the New York City subway. The Metro is owned by Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority which is also the same operator of the MetroAccess. This subway was opened in 1976 with 86 stations. This was designed by architect Harry Weese who hails from Chicago. The transit was built with heavy concrete and has lighted underground stations with fluorescent lights between tracks and next to the station walls.

How to travel via the Metro

Before riding the metro, each visitor needs to have her on pass or farecard to the Metrotrail. This farecard is exclusively for one person’s use and cannot be shared with others. It cost $1.35 to $45. These cards are widely availing on Metrotrail stations’ vending machines or you can pre order facecards by mail. This order can be paid via money order or checks.
