Washington is the US Capital, DC is the Federal District

The city of Washington got its name from the first US President, George Washington. The federal District of Columbia was set up around the capital so that it acts as a border for the capital, and help distinguish Washington, DC from the neighboring states.

Tourism brings in much revenues for the capital, due to the popularity of landmarks like the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the National World War II Memorial. Washington is less popular for the music genres that thrived here, like go-go R&B, punk rock, and indie rock. The West Wing show has revived interest in Washington.
